New wage hike in Cordi possible

ANOTHER wage increase in Cordillera is likely to happen, said an official of the Cordillera regional tripartite and wages productivity board (RTWPB).

RTWPB secretary Teodoro Delson said economic indicators like the increase in the prices of basic commodities and an improved gross regional domestic production (GRDP) are basis for another wage increase.

From last year's one percent, GRDP increased to 3.5 percent.

When and how much the increase would be, however, still depend on an employer's capacity to pay.

From a P75 proposed wage increase, the RTWPB approved a P10-increase last year, which increased Baguio's basic daily wage from P225 to P235.

No petition for wage increase has been filed but Delson said the RTWPB motu propio, already scheduled a series of public hearings next month.

The RTWPB would first hear proposals for wage increase in the provinces in Cordillera. (RO)
