Dad says garbage segregation to continue
By Rimaliza Opina

VICE Mayor Daniel Fariñas said despite the unsuccessful implementation of the city's waste reduction scheme through segregation, the system will continue.

Fariñas stressed that the lack of enough information dissemination and education may also be the reason why only a few households and business establishments observed the segregation system.

He added that pointing fingers as to who's to blame for the unsuccessful segregation system would not solve the problem.

The Vice Mayor said the city is bent on going full swing with the implementation of the `no collection, no segregation' policy.

He explained that this was the reason why the City Council allotted P1 million for the information and education campaign of the City Environment and Parks Management Office.

Asked if the City Government would go as far as imposing a shame campaign on officials who fail to impose this policy in their respective barangays, he said this would only be resorted to, if no improvement is observed in the coming months.

For the moment, he said, the city would strengthen the campaign on proper waste segregation and reduction.

Also for health and tourism purposes, Fariñas assured that the City Government would not allow garbage to continue piling up.

Meanwhile, he appealed to the public not to pass all responsibility to the local government, even if they pay for garbage fees.

Fariñas stressed that there are national and local laws that would confirm their implementation of the `no segregation, no collection' policy.
