Sunday, October 21, 2007 City mulls management of Marcos properties
THE Baguio City Council is making the right move with regard its plan to manage the sequestered properties of the Marcos family here.
If the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) does not properly maintain these properties, Baguio Representative Mauricio Domogan said indeed, it is more practical for the City Government to take over and convert these into tourist sites.
Pending before the City Council is a proposal by Councilor Perlita Chan-Rondez, chairperson of the committee on tourism, for the transfer of Marcos properties in Barangay Outlook Drive to the City Government.
Domogan said the PCGG would be the overseer while the City Government would manage the Marcos assets.
The legislator, however, advised that the proposal has to be studied carefully.
He said if the proposal is approved, this might become a precedent for other local governments where properties of the Marcos family are located to also ask that these be managed by them.
Domogan added that the decision would not come from the PCGG alone but from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo herself. "The PCGG should consider the proposal,” he said. (RO)
