Monday, November 12, 2007 Hearing set to settle legitimate bizmen's woes
THE City Council committee on market, trade and commerce has set a public hearing concerning the issues brought to the fore by legitimate businessmen who have time and again made known their opposition to trade fairs held in various occasions in Baguio.
Set on November 14 at 2 p.m. at the Session Hall of the City Council, the public hearing would dwell mainly on the city ordinance that allows the conduct of trade fairs during the months of December and February as well as the rules that govern the conduct of trade fairs.
The Baguio-Benguet Chamber of Commerce has been vocal in opposing the conduct of trade fairs, saying they offer unfair competition.
The group said products sold in trade fairs are the same products sold by regular businessmen.
Councilor Elaine Sembrano, chair of the committee on market, has proposed that in the future, any park should no longer be used as venue for trade fairs.
Sembrano also proposed that trade fairs would only be allowed 15 days to operate without any extensions.(Rimaliza Opiña)
