Tuesday, November 13, 2007 All systems go for flyover completion By Rimaliza Opiña
IF INDEED the construction of the BGH flyover is marred with corruption, let the actual structure be the evidence of wrongdoing, implied acting Mayor Daniel Fariñas.
Fariñas said the City Government does not have plans of stopping the flyover's construction even with feedbacks that a flyover in the area is not needed.
He said it would also be a waste of public funds if the foundations of the flyover, which had been built earlier, would be left to deteriorate without being used.
He said the most practical thing to do is to allow the flyover's construction and see if the structure would turnout to benefit the motorists in the end.
Phase 2 of the project has been accomplished earlier by widening portions of Governor Pack Road. Phase I involves the construction of the actual flyover, which include among others the conduct of diggings for the installation of the bridge's foundations.
Construction was put to a halt a few months earlier because funds that were allotted for the purpose was not enough to complete the project.
The escalating prices of construction materials was said to be the reason for the delay, until recently, Baguio Representative Mauricio Domogan announced that additional funds has been allotted for the project's completion.
Last week, the contractor, Advanced Foundation Specialists, resumed the works and assured that the flyover would be completed next month.
