Establishments told to provide own garbage receptacles

SEGREGATED or not segregated, bags of garbage that are left in front of establishments at the business district, ready for hauling, remain an ugly site, that establishments should be required to provide their own receptacles to accommodate garbage.

Aside from being an eyesore, garbage that is dumped using only plastic bags is scattered by stray animals, Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas said.

He said using garbage receptacles to accommodate accumulated garbage is more sanitary and could even control the presence of insects, flies and even rodents.

Fariñas said establishments like hotels, restaurants, and malls should be required for their own garbage containers, which they would use to hold segregate garbage.

After his visit in China, Mayor Reinaldo Bautista, Jr. earlier contemplated on allotting funds for the provision of color-coded garbage cans to every household here.

He said this would ensure the public's compliance to the city's intensified waste segregation drive. (Rimaliza Opiña)
