In a public hearing organized by the City Council committee on laws, drivers who attended said a weekend band on PUVs would affect their income.
Aside from a one-day off the streets, their respective associations also impose a one-day ban. Being off the street for three days would mean lesser income for them, one driver said.
Another driver said they favor a weekend number coding scheme as their contribution to reducing traffic congestion and air pollution.
Still another asked that if there is a weekend coding, the ban must apply not only to PUVs but also to private vehicles.
Service to commuters might also be affected if a weekend coding is passed by the City Council, one driver from Irisan said.
The weekend coding proposed by Councilor Nicasio Aliping, Jr. prescribes the ban on PUVs through an odd-even scheme.
Those with plate numbers ending in odd numbers are prohibited to ply city streets on Saturdays and even numbers on Sundays. (Rimaliza Opiña)
