THE Lang-ay Festival Group from Mountain Province brought home the first prize with their three-minute presentation during the grand parade of the Cordillera festivals at the Burnham Park Athletic Bowl as part of the 3rd Wow Philippines, Cordillera's Best 2007.
Lang-ay is the Mountain Province's traditional practice of generosity, sharing and respect. The group bags P45,000 cash prize.
Other awards were given to the "ullalim" festival group from Kalinga as best in innovative choreography with a P15,000 cash prize, "adivay" group from Benguet, which won the indigenous practices communication effort with P15,000 cash prize. "Gotad ad Ifugao" group from Ifugao won the best in colors with P15,000.
The "ragragsakan" festival performed by the Baguio City National High School main bagged the "best in new concept" with P20,000 cash prize, the Cordillera "paet" performed by the Saint Louis University won the "best in audience impact" with P15, 000 and the Cordillera gardening festival performed by the Baguio City National High School Quezon Hill annex with P10, 000 cash prize.
The last three festivals were newly-introduced as "non-traditional festival dances" which were categorized as "new concept," said City Tourism Officer Benny Alhambra. (AT/UP-Baguio Intern)
