LA TRINIDAD, Benguet authorities banned firecracker vendors from doing their business in the municipality as the town's way of maintaining peace and avoiding accidents.
Mayor Artemio Galwan said he is not open to the sale of firecrackers in the municipality. "I would not want firecracker vendors to come to the town. We have to be cautious and limit the occurrence of injuries."
The mayor is supportive of measures that are being implemented by other agencies to ensure the safety of the public from the hazards brought by the use of pyrotechnic materials.
"We will also be issuing advisories to secure our public places from the unrestrained use of firecrackers," he added.
The Department of Health (DOH) has started its campaign against the use of firecrackers as the country celebrates the Yuletide season.
In Baguio, health officials expressed dismay over the approval of an ordinance allowing the sale of firecrackers in the city.
