Friday, January 11, 2008 Mayor mulls rehire of Burnham park attendants By Rimaliza Opiña
THE plea of the 33 recently terminated Burnham Park attendants did not fall on deaf ears.
In his regular press briefing last Thursday, Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. announced he would reconsider his earlier decision and might decide to rehire the Burnham Park attendants whose appointments as casual employees were not renewed.
However, the announcement should not cause the affected employees to rejoice just yet because Bautista said this still has to bear the approval of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
The appointment of the 33 attendants was not renewed because they failed to pass the city’s qualification standards that they should at least be high school graduates.
Only 25 of the 33 will be hired by the City Government, Bautista clarified. Performance and good work attitude and not the education will be the basis for appointing them, the mayor added.
Burnham Park has 81 attendants paid formerly by the National Parks Development Commission, now the Philippine Tourism Authority.
If the CSC approves their re-appointment, the City Government will pay their wages, and they will be under the supervision of the City Environment and Parks Management Office.
