Tuesday, January 29, 2008 Barangay seeks management of Tabora Park By Rimaliza Opiña
THE barangay council of Lower Magsaysay wants to manage the Tabora loading area where La Trinidad-bound jeepneys using the Magsaysay Avenue route use as their staging area.
The barangay council, led by chairman Jose Amagen Jr., said the barangay could provide security officers to implement peace and order, manage traffic flow, and maintain cleanliness.
In a resolution, the barangay council said the drivers associations agreed the management and administration of Tabora Park be turned over to the barangay officials.
Passed last December, the proposal is now pending before the City Council committee on public utilities, transportation and traffic legislation, headed by Councilor Rocky Thomas Balisong.
The use of the Tabora Park as staging area for La Trinidad-bound jeepneys was approved during the time of former councilor Delfin Balajadia.
The use of the area however, was supposed to be for three months and on experimental basis only.
The experiment reached up to five years, although several attempts have been made at the City Council to possibly end the trial period, following reports from the past and present heads of the Traffic Management Branch that allowing La Trinidad jeepneys to load at Tabora Park results in traffic congestion.
Jeepneys, which come from La Trinidad, upon reaching the right lane of Magsaysay Avenue, would make a u-turn going to Tabora Park.
Plans of returning the unloading of passengers at the Slaughterhouse compound was stalled because of the appeal of the affected drivers and the La Trinidad Municipal Government, represented by then mayor now Benguet Governor Nestor Fongwan.
