Mayor seeks for construction of another flyover in Baguio

AFTER the inauguration of the Baguio General Hospital (BGH) flyover, the construction of additional flyovers in other parts of the city is on top of the agenda of one official here.

Recently, Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to consider allocating funds for the construction of a flyover from the junction of P. Burgos to Tabora Park.

"This will provide commuters from the La Trinidad-Baguio routes with one ride schemes," Fariñas said citing a possible two-ride system if unloading is at the Slaughterhouse only.

Fariñas said the flyover would ease congestion at this portion of Magsaysay Avenue.

At present, Baguio has two flyovers, one in Magsaysay Avenue and the recently opened at the Kisad-BGH rotund.

Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane and officials of the DPWH regional office inaugurated the BGH flyover last Friday.

The construction of the flyover was delayed for about two years after former Baguio mayor Braulio Yaranon objected to its construction, saying it is technically unsound to build a structure at a critical area, because underneath is a water aquifer. He also alleged the construction was laden with graft. (RO)
