La Trinidad villages mobilized for regional sports meet

BEING host to this year's regional athletic sports meet, barangays in La Trinidad are being mobilized to assist delegates in the five-day activity.

La Trinidad Mayor Artemio Galwan ordered barangay officials to help in the preparation of the playing fields and billeting areas of delegates of this year's Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa) regional sports meet.

He directed the town's 16 villages to assist in the preparation and during the Caraa to ensure delegates are well attended to.

Councilor Robert Namoro, barangay league president, said at least two barangays will be in charge of eight schools identified as billeting areas of participants.

Barangays will provide additional security and help ensure the cleanliness of the playing grounds and accommodation centers.

"The barangays will provide whatever assistance they can give to the delegates," Namoro said.

Preparations are also underway at the Provincial Government.

Benguet Governor Nestor Fongwan said the province is fast-tracking the completion of the sports center at Wangal, La Trinidad, where bulk of the games will be held.

Construction of the sports center, located within the compound of the Department of Education (DepEd) regional office, is funded by the Provincial Government to cater to athletic events.

Baguio City will host other sports events such as swimming. (JC)
