Sunday, February 03, 2008 La Trinidad launches campaign vs erring businesses By Jane Cadalig
LA TRINIDAD'S special body created to monitor the compliance of establishments on the town's revenue code has started doing the rounds against notorious businessmen.
The tax campaign task force is implementing the door-to-door monitoring to determine businesses without permits and to check if those declared in the application for licenses coincide with the actual operations.
Jun Langato, head of the task force, said they will prioritize bars, computer shops and eateries in the implementation of the tax campaign.
The task force does not only focus on establishments without permits, but also monitors if the activities in such businesses coincide with what were indicated in the application.
"We will prioritize bars because they are the number one producers of unruly persons and computer shops because we are after the welfare of the children," Langato said.
Establishments with no permits or have not renewed their license will be given application forms which they have to submit and process in three days.
Langato said businessmen who still fail to process their permits will be issued orders to close shop.
"The (rounds) that will be conducted by the task force will be the last opportunity of business establishments to comply with municipal regulations," he said.
The tax campaign is one of the municipality government's strategies in maximizing its revenue generation.
