Tuesday, February 19, 2008 Councilors want anti-piracy drive coordinated with police
TO AVOID another incident where one member of the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) got shot by a vendor of pirated digital video discs (DVD), the Baguio City Council committee on justice recommended all operations must be coordinated with the police.
The committee said this is to ensure members of the POSD are protected and secured in the conduct of their operations.
Last October, George Addawe, head of the anti-illegal vending task force, was shot and injured by a vendor during one of their operations.
The incident failed to deter police and the POSD from conducting their clearing operations, but the committee stressed there should be coordination at all times.
The committee also recommended for those who participated in the anti-illegal vending and anti-piracy campaign be given awards and commendations for their dedication.
The alleged gunman, Yunos Darang, surrendered and is now facing direct assault and frustrated homicide charges. (RO)
