Mayor says Baguio can handle disasters
THE razing of the University of Baguio (UB) high school building last February 16 was a test of the city's capability of handling emergency situations of such magnitude.
And the city passed the test, Baguio City Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. said.
Post here your Valentine's Day greetings
Bautista said the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and volunteers were able to contain the fire with the least damage, especially of life and limb.
He lamented however the removal of fire hydrants to give way to repairs of sidewalks.
He credited water delivery companies for assisting the BFP in replenishing its water supply.
Last February 16, the UB high school building was razed by fire. It damaged portions of the adjacent FRB building and the Dangwa terminal.
Classes held in these buildings were suspended last Monday, but resumed immediately at the university's gym.
Initial investigation by the BFP revealed the fire was due to faulty electrical wiring. Damage was estimated to cost around P70 million. (RO)
