Friday, February 29, 2008 Arroyo names Centeno as new city prosecutor
AFTER almost three months since the Office of the City Prosecutor was vacated, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo appointed a new city prosecutor in the person of lawyer Alfredo Centeno.
The 62-year-old former assistant city prosecutor will be taking over the position vacated by retired city prosecutor Benedicto Carantes.
Appointed last January 31 by the President, Centeno took his oath in simple rites last Tuesday before Regional State Prosecutor Nonnatus Caesar Rojas.
An alumnus of the Baguio Colleges Foundation (BCF) in both his undergraduate and post-graduate studies, Centeno began his law profession in government as legal officer of the municipality of Itogon, Benguet in 1972.
He later became a college instructor at BCF from 1973 to 1979 then in 1981, and law professor also at BCF from 1973 to 1994.
He also became the legal counsel of Western Minolco Inc., a mining company from 1979 to 1980, and legal counsel of the Atok Big Wedge Inc. of the Araneta Group of Companies from 1981 to 1987.
He rejoined government in 1987 as third assistant city prosecutor then as second city assistant until his latest appointment last month.
At present, Centeno is also a law professor at the colleges of law of Saint Louis University (SLU) and the University of Baguio (UB).
Born on January 9, 1946 in Luna, La Union, Centeno was raised in Baguio and studied at SLU for both his elementary and high school education. He is married to Gloria Velasco. They have five children. (RO)
