Wednesday, March 05, 2008 New Benguet police chief vows effective service
NEWLY installed Benguet Provincial Police Director Danilo Pelisco said the provincial police force would perform effectively.
Pelisco assured members of the Provincial Board (PB) his being new to the province would not affect his ability to lead the provincial police and address the concerns of the province.
The new Benguet police chief assumed office February 1. He told the PB during his courtesy call last Tuesday that Benguet's standing as one of finalists of the Best Provincial Police Office in the country will remain while he is the head of provincial office.
"We want to maintain the standing as we instill discipline among our people," he said.
Asked on how he would address the problem on the lack of police personnel manning the entire province, Pelisco said he would ask the support of the Cordillera Police Regional Office to convince the National Police Headquarters to give Benguet more from the recruitment quota for Cordillera.
Pelisco had been the provincial director of the Misamis Oriental Provincial Police prior to his assignment to Benguet.
"We maybe new to the province, but this does not mean we are ineffective. We have performed well in our areas of assignment and we will be so in Benguet," he said.
Pelisco was recommended by former Benguet police chief Moro Lazo and was among those recommended to Governor Nestor Fognwan.
The selection of police directors is a prerogative of local chief executives. (JC)
