Student leader charged for 'dubious' school project
By Rimaliza Opiña

AN ISSUE, which some student leaders of Saint Louis University want to keep within the university's walls, might reach the City Council.

This, as former secretary for public relations of the Supreme Student Council (SSC) Elton Veloria filed before the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) a complaint against student president Michael Flores.

Flores is the concurrent chairman of Barangay Kabayanihan.

Veloria's complaint stemmed from Flores's alleged threats against him after giving interviews to the media regarding questions he raised on the construction of walkways worth some P400,000 which connected three buildings of the university.

Veloria said after the issue came out in the media, Flores gave him a rosary and allegedly said: "mag-ingat ka. God bless."

He interpreted this as a threat to his life, prompting him to record the conversation in the police blotter and later on with the DILG.

The complaint was filed last month. The DILG on the other hand, referred this to the City Council, the body tasked to handle administrative complaints versus barangay officials.

Earlier, Veloria, along with three former officers of the SSC, said although other officers of the SSC came out to clarify the project was aboveboard, the group said questions on the implementation of the project remains unanswered.

Veloria also justified his coming out in the media saying this was his only recourse because the executive committee of the SSC and the SLU administration were not transparent when documents relative to the project have not been made public.
