Saturday, March 29, 2008 Drivers await decision on fare hike
THE escalating prices of basic commodities have prompted officials of local public utility transport groups to seek an increase in fare prices.
In the Cordillera Administrative Region, Perfecto Itliong Jr., president of the local chapter of the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers of Philippines (Fejodap), disclosed that he is coordinating with their main organization in Manila to decide on how much of an increase may be imposed here.
He said their local chapter has not decided how much of an increase they will ask, as this will depend on how much of an increase the Fejodap main organization will also ask.
He said Fejodap is pushing for a P1.50 increase but they are still discussing if this will suffice, considering the higher fuel consumption in the region because of the rugged terrain.
Crude oil now costs an average of P49 per liter and has risen considerably since the last fare increase here in 2006. (RO)
