Saturday, March 29, 2008 Benguet to host national motor sport competition
BENGUET'S terrain is just as conducive to host motor sport competitions such as this year's Philippine Hill Climb Series, scheduled on March 29 and 30.
The Benguet Visitors Bureau (BVB), in partnership with the Hill Climb Club of the Philippines, and in cooperation with the Automobile Association of the Philippines, will bring to Benguet the second and third legs of the motor sport competition.
BVB chairman Greg Loy and world-renowned car racer Carlos Anton said these legs of the competition will boost the province's tourism, as competitors from other parts of the country will be joining the two-day event.
Around 50 competitors, from national and local racers, are expected to join the motor sport competition, which will be held along Ambuklao Road in Loacan, Itogon.
Loy sought the indulgence of motorists and other people who will be traveling in the area during the two-day competition, which forms part of the national championships.
Portions of the road will be closed for 45 minutes to give way for the race. "But we will allow 15 minute intervals to allow traffic flow," Loy said.
Anton said this is the first time the event will happen in Benguet. The first leg of the motor sport competition was conducted in Nasugbu, Batangas. The following legs will be in Subic, Zambales and Bataan. (JC)
