Friday, April 04, 2008 NFA sets up bigasan outlets in Baguio, LT
THE National Food Authority (NFA) provincial office has set up six "Bigasan ni Gloria" outlets within the Baguio City market rice section.
In a report issued by the local NFA, three of the outlets operate from Monday to Wednesday and the other operates from Thursday to Saturday while one operates even on a Sunday.
In La Trinidad, the NFA has also set up one outlet within the town's public market.
These outlets are monitored daily by NFA under their "Palengke Watch" program.
NFA rice is pegged at 18.25 per kilo and all NFA warehouses within the Cordillera contain ample supply of rice.
To date, no complaints have been received by both the NFA and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and as a pro-active measure, the NFA sought the commitment of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for assistance to any complaint filed by consumers.
Likewise, the DTI regional office through lawyer Samuel Gallardo of the Business Regulation and Consumer Welfare Division urged the public to be vigilant against any unscrupulous activity like repacking of NFA rice and sold as a commercial variety.
Gallardo stressed this act violates the Deceptive, Unfair and Unconscionable Sales Acts or Practices (Republic Act 7394) and violators found shall be fined or imprisoned subject to the discretion of the court. (Press release)
