Friday, April 04, 2008 Tublay seeks settlement of boundary tiff with LT
OFFICIALS of Tublay, Benguet are asking the Provincial Board (PB) to initiate the resolution of a long standing boundary conflict between the town and adjacent municipality of La Trinidad, as they asked for the implementation of the settlement of another boundary dispute which was entered by former officials of both towns 59 years ago.
In a resolution, the Tublay Municipal Government asked the PB to initiate the amicable settlement of a boundary dispute over an area covering 193.6 hectares in Barangay Tuel, Tublay and in Barangay Alno, La Trinidad.
The tiff was discovered when cadastral surveys of the two municipalities were prepared. "When the cadastral survey for La Trinidad was made in 1989 and a survey of Tublay was undertaken in 1999, it came out that boundaries of both municipalities were overlapping over 193.6 hectares," the resolution said.
The Tublay local government is also seeking the implementation of the amicable settlement entered by officials of the two towns over a dispute covering Barangay Caponga in Tublay and Barangay Shilan in La Trinidad.
Tublay officials said the settlement, which was entered in 1949, was never implemented.
"Up to these days, the amicable settlement had never been implemented, while despite the different changes in administration, no official action from either party was ever made to nullify the said agreement," the town added.
Tublay has a land area of 10,808.53 hectares and a population of 14,396, based on recent census. The municipality has eight barangays. (JC)
