Sunday, April 13, 2008 Incentives for outstanding peace and order council eyed
VILLAGES that receive citations for their effective peace keeping programs will be given incentives to encourage more areas to implement their programs more judiciously.
La Trinidad Mayor Artemio Galwan is mulling the allocation of cash incentives to barangays, which are cited for keeping their peace and order council working effectively.
The mayor's pronouncement came after one of the town's villages was chosen as one of the most outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa (local peace council) in the country.
Details as to how much incentives will be given were not, however, disclosed.
Municipal officials recently received the citation of Barangay Poblacion, which grabbed the second runner up award in Malacañang recently.
The village has been a consistent local peace council awardee. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) spearheads the search for the most outstanding Lupon.
Galwan said giving incentives to barangays that are cited for their peace keeping programs will encourage other villages to improve their peace and order programs.
Barangay Poblacion will receive funding assistance (from National Government and funding agencies) to projects the village will propose, as a compliment for getting the award. (JC)
