Monday, April 21, 2008 DepEd mum on eviction of Napolcom, PPSC
THE Teachers' Camp administration is mum over plans to evict the National Police Commission (Napolcom) and the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) over their failure to pay leases for using portions of the camp for 30 years now.
Assistant secretary and camp officer-in-charge Jonathan Malaya said the Department of Education (DepEd) could not comment on the reported "eviction order" signed by the President during her visit during the Holy Week, saying he has yet to see a copy of the document.
A national daily reported the President signed a marginal note to DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus ordering him to issue a memorandum to Napolcom and PPSC to transfer to the Philippine National Police (PNP) regional headquarters at Camp Bado Dangwa in La Trinidad.
Teachers' Camp is presently undergoing renovation. The restoration works are part the centennial program of the camp.
To improve its tourism potential, the white and green cottages are being restored, a museum will be built, and the landscape will be improved.
Teachers' Camp celebrated its centennial last April 9, but the grand launching and celebration is scheduled on May 10.
In a recently issued report, renovation works are 90 percent complete. (RO)
