Explosives seized in Kalinga
GOVERNMENT troops confiscated a cache of explosives from a group of seven men in a checkpoint they were manning in Tabuk in Kalinga Province, a military spokesman said.
Quoting reports from the field, Army spokesman Ernesto Torres said the seven dynamites, four detonating cords, and five blasting caps were confiscated by a team under Sergeant Rolly Macarilay of the 21st Infantry Battalion (IB).

Torres said the soldiers stopped the suspects, aboard a jeep-type vehicle, passed the checkpoint in front of the battalion headquarters in Barangay Bantay in the town last Saturday morning, prompting them to stop the vehicle.
"Accordingly, the troops halted a jeep-type vehicle bearing license plate AHC-681 and upon inspection, they found the explosives with accessories with no pertinent documents," he said.
He said the troops then confiscated the items and arrested the driver, Felix Panoy, and his passengers identified as Marcos Baydon, Donato Longaw, Andy Nagyaan, Johnny Agayao, Joe Wacnang, and Vicente Gayad.
"The vehicle was temporarily impounded at the headquarters, while the passengers, including the driver along with recovered explosives were turned over to the Kalinga Provincial Police Office (KPPO) while waiting for appropriate charges and proper disposition," said Torres.
Meanwhile, three suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) operating in the areas of Siaton, Negros Oriental surrendered to the 61st IB troops under Lieutenant Colonel Romeo Basco on Saturday night.
The suspects were identified as Alpie Gadiani alias Ian, 19; Ritchel Torintin alias Enting, 21; and Junifer Mondido alias Jeg, 22; all members of Squad 1, Platoon 2, Southeast Front (SEF), Komiteng Rehiyon-Sentral Bisayas (KR-SB).
