"If it would mean better efficiency of Beneco's services, why would we oppose (the car plan)? In my case, I would also go for a car plan if the municipality has enough money to finance it so I could use the vehicle to do my job outside office hours and working days," Godio said.
Godio, however, clarified the stand is merely his and does not reflect the position of the other Benguet mayors to the plan.
Beneco's vehicle plan, which intends to acquire new vehicles for seven department managers at a cost of P1.5 million each gained objections from some local officials and consumer groups.
Officials of the distribution utility claimed it could save more than P8.9 million for 10 years if it acquires new vehicles through the car plan, compared to buying new ones solely financed by the electric utility.
The National Association of Consumers for Electric Reforms is, however, not convinced, as it called on consumers to oppose the plan.
