Sunday, May 04, 2008 Scholarships available for PNP dependents By Ernie N. Olson Jr.
SCHOLARSHIP grants are now available for qualified dependents of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who want to finish four or five-year college courses starting this coming school year.
Offered by the PNP Officers Ladies Club, the scholarships will be granted through the Karangalan ng mga Alagad ng Batas Foundation to deserving students who have the potential to excel in their desired fields.
"The opening of classes is fast approaching and parents go through the same problem every year to cope up with tuition, miscellaneous fees and other school requirements," explained Beth Cedo, assistant press relations officer of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera.
She explained the PNP gives high regard to education and empathizes with its personnel by providing quality education for their children.
Cedo said there are 10 slots available for children or dependents of non-commissioned officers of the PRO-Cordillera.
She said those interested in availing the 10 available scholarship grants may get their application forms at the Police-Community Relations Division of PRO-Cordillera in Camp Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet.
Applicants must submit their latest school report cards, which must have an average of 85 percent or above; an assessment of tuition, miscellaneous fees and other expenses; the PNP identification cards of their parents, who should be non-commissioned officers; the duty status of their PNP parents; their birth certificates; their ID card from the school presently or last enrolled; the service records of their parents; and their parents' marriage contracts.
"However, while successful applicants may enroll in any four-year or five-year course in college, they will not be allowed to enroll in exclusive schools like Ateneo, La Salle and the like," Cedo pointed out.
She said PRO-Cordillera personnel are encouraged to avail of this offer to help ease their financial burden and ensure their children of a good education at the same time.
