Sunday, May 18, 2008 PNRC pursues community-based disaster management
WITH the recent environmental issues and disasters that are happening not only in our country but also in different parts of the world, the Red Cross Benguet Chapter is planning on intensifying its community-based disaster group.
This program through Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) Project 143 aims to promote and build a team ready for any problem that may arise in Benguet Province or in any community.
Oscar Paris, chapter administrator of Red Cross Benguet said during the Red Cross Convention on May 15, 2008, the province must be ready to any crisis at all times.
The program named "I love you Red Cross", is targeting 60 barangays of Benguet, recruiting and organizing 43 volunteers in every barangay.
This includes nine individuals for the Barangay Disaster Action Team, nine health and welfare volunteers and 25 blood donors.
With Red Cross Benguet 25 years of existence, Paris said this is not the first time for PNRC to compose such a team.
Although the previous plans did not materialize, Paris is confident that this year's project will materialize.
He is optimistic that this agenda will be a success with the help of the local government unit down to barangay level. (LGQ)
