Wednesday, May 28, 2008 Suspect in murder of tilapia raiser nabbed By Ernie N. Olson Jr.
THE prime suspect in the gruesome killing of the one-legged tilapia raiser of Km. 6 in Tuba, Benguet in October 2005 was finally captured in Sabangan, Mountain Province, a police official said.
Senior Superintendent Cedrick Train, regional chief of the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), identified the suspect as Pedro Mario Comelet.
Comelet, 32, a resident of Sabangan, Mountain Province, was listed as the CIDG's second most wanted person in the Cordillera.
According to Train, the suspect was arrested on May 19 by virtue of a warrant issued by Judge Edgardo de Rivera Jr. of La Trinidad's Regional Trial Court Branch 10 for murder.
"The subject is said to be the prime suspect in the gruesome slay of William Paleyan, an amputated tilapia raiser, in the latter's farm located along Km. 6 of Tuba, Benguet sometime in October 2005," he explained.
He said the arrest of the suspect is in line with the PNP-CIDG's flagship project "Oplan Pagtugis" or campaign against wanted persons.
"The arrested person was brought to this office for documentation and was subsequently turned over to the issuing court where an order was immediately issued for his detention at the Benguet Provincial Jail," Train added.
