District 17 wins SK President's Cup championship

WHILE officials of Baguio's District 19 dominated the recently concluded Palarong Pambarangay, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) players of District 17 romped off with the SK President's Cup championship, which concluded last Tuesday.

This was disclosed by SK Federation president and Councilor Gloria Ysabel de Vera, who said that aside from trophies, the champion was also awarded a P10,000 cash prize, the first runner-up got P7,000 and the second runner-up received a P5,000 pot.

"The most valuable player, Rey Bilibli of South Sanitary Camp, was also given a P2,000 cash prize," she said.

District 17 is composed of Barangays Alfonso Tabora, Magsaysay Private Road, New Lucban, North Sanitary Camp, South Sanitary Camp and Trancoville.

Also taking the first runner-up trophy during the awards ceremony held at the PFVR Center was District 13, which is made up of Barangays Camp 7, Camp 8, Military Cut-off, Puliwes and San Vicente.

Coming in at second runner-up position was District 9, which comprises Barangays Ambiong, Bayan Park Village, East Bayan Park, North Central Aurora Hill, San Antonio Village, South Central Aurora Hill and West Bayan Park.

"With the success of the SK President's Cup, we plan to conduct another basketball tournament again next year and to continue it annually while we are still here," de Vera pointed out.

She said since it was vacation time, and most of the city's SK members and officers had no classes, they scheduled this tournament to give them something to do, which proved health promoting. It was also a way to keep them from the harmful effects of alcohol and drugs.

"This way, we even promoted camaraderie and sportsmanship among the participants," de Vera added. (ENO)
