120 Baguio SK officers undergo values seminar

A 120 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officers of various barangays in Baguio participated in a Values Education and Leadership Training seminar conducted in Pangasinan from May 29 to June 1.

According to SK Federation president and City Councilor Gloria Ysabel de Vera, the four-day seminar aims to inculcate positive values among the youth, and to equip them with a good knowledge of their personal capacity so as to be able to fully utilize their positive qualities and improve on their weaknesses as they perform their specific duties as leaders of the youth in their respective barangays.

Aside from these, de Vera said the seminar also aims to teach SK officials how to perform to the best of their abilities, to be honest in the performance of their duties and to be exemplary in their behavior in relation to people of different ages at home, in school, in the office and the community as a whole.

"While they will also be taught the functions of their respective positions as SK officials, they will also learn to define their role in their family, school, the workplace, religious, social and political groupings," she pointed out.

"They will engage in long-term planning and goal-setting for themselves, learn to be performance-oriented leaders, and also learn to communicate effectively with persons at different levels in any given system whether these be their peers, superiors or subordinates," she explained.

De Vera said in the initial phase of this seminar, the SK participants will focus on self-reflection, values clarification and be given basic knowledge of their official functions.

She added that participants will also be taught the rudiments of public speaking which will be very useful in their functions as present SK officials and future leaders of society. (ENO)
