The Municipal Council will soon adopt the phrase "Rocky Walls of Beauties" as the town's official tagline.
Kibungan was once called the Switzerland of Benguet owing to the mountain peaks and cold weather akin to that of Switzerland. Mayor Benito Siadto said the tag was created by visitors in the town and not the municipality.
The Department of Tourism (DOT), however, recommended a change in the tag following a visitor's remarks he was disappointed to find out it does not snow in Kibungan much less a skiing resort.
The local government held a contest to determine the town's new tag, which was chosen during the town's foundation celebration last November.
Coined by Felicio Balingan, the phrase was one of 22 entries submitted to the committee tasked to select the tag which best depicts Kibungan.
Originally, Balingan submitted the phrase "The Great Rocky Walls of Beauties in Benguet," but Councilor Bobby Wayan said the selection committee decided to narrow this into Rocky Walls of Beauties.
The tall and rocky mountain peaks and the indigenous attractions, including the mossy forests, rice and vegetable terraces and the people were among the reasons cited to defend the new moniker.
Kibungan boasts of its mountains and cool weather to visitors. The mountains of Takadang village are gaining popularity among local and foreign backpackers.
The Municipal Council will pass a resolution adopting the phrase as the town's tagline during its regular session this week, Wayan said.
