Celebrating Father's Day, the burrito way

WHAT has the past week been like in Baguio?

Independence Day was celebrated in the city with the historical unfurling of the world's second largest flag. It is so big that even the athletic bowl where it was unfurled was dwarfed by it.

At the Baguio Convention Center, Kappa Rho Upsilon Sigma (Krus), a brotherhood and sisterhood socio-civic organization, helped distribute rice to recipients. Headed by their newly inducted president, Bong Reyes and vice president Bert San Pedro, this is one of their community projects lined up for the year. The next one is a tree planting activity on June 25. To all Krus members, congratulations and hope to see you all during the tree planting activity.

The simultaneous waving of the Philippine flag in all 30 SM malls nationwide was participated in by 20,149 SM employees, affiliates, tenants and agencies. It was followed by a Sayaw Malaya dance musical by Karlo Altomonte "Pag-ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa".

Opened with the Kartilla recited by Mayor Peter Rey Bautista, the program also featured poems by national artists and national heroes musically scored by Karlo Altomonte and Ethan Ventura.

The following day, June 13, Simpleng Musika- Mga Awit ng Kalayaan was a well-attended affair with the Rewind Band performing different Filipino songs with freedom or independence as the theme.

Independence Day celebration at SM City Baguio does not stop there. Last June 21 at 5 p.m., the play "Pepe: A Comedy Play on the Life of Dr. Jose Rizal" was presented at the Atrium and "Tonyo: a multi- media play on the life of Gen. Antonio Luna" also at the Atrium, SM City Baguio will be staged on June 28 at 5 p.m.

Everybody celebrated Father's Day in different ways.

At SM City Baguio, they have extended the photo contest "In His Eyes" until June 27. This contest is open to all. Capture special happy moments with dad in the mall within the promo period (June 1-27) and send your entries to the Marketing Division of the Mall Administration.

You could win for yourselves SM cards and a two-day accommodation at Thunderbird Resort in Poro Point, La Union. So start clicking and make those memorable moments with dad live on.

Tia Maria's, Picture City, Thunderbird Resort and SM City Baguio made the Father's Day weekend really fun and filling!

At the Father and Child Burrito Eating Contest last June 14, father and child teams of all sizes and ages gobbled down gigantic and delicious burritos courtesy of Tia Maria's. It was an all-around fun and happy moment as different tactics and strategies were taken by the teams.

A kid walked out of his dad. A cute, little darling did his best in eating up his fair share. A little girl spilled the filling. A dad dunked the burrito in his drink before eating it (ala pan de sal and coffee). The Grill Dad dinner weekend at the Baguio Burnham Suites saw fathers and their children enjoy the special Ranchero Spare Ribs and Grilled Dorado.

These new offerings are now part of the new menu of Burnham Suites and can be availed of anytime. Yummy new dishes have been included and will be introduced on different days with special promos.

Watch out for this! But don't let it stop you from trying these out at anytime of the day any day of the week. You'll love it! (MV)
