Having am alarm system also helps alert neighboring establishments, explained Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas, who said in a proposed ordinance that all business establishments should be obliged to install an automatic alarm system.
Having an alarm system could save lives and salvage property, Fariñas said.
He proposed the creation of a task force (TF) to conduct ocular inspection on business establishments. The TF is composed of the Baguio City Police Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, City Buildings and Architecture Office and the City Engineering Office.
The vice mayor said the alarm system need not be sophisticated and expensive, just something that can be activated during emergencies.
In the proposed guidelines on the assessment of business establishments, notices will first be sent by the TF prior to inspection.
Independent business establishments within commercial buildings that already have fire and alarm systems may still be required to have an alarm system depending on the evaluation done by the TF.
Commercial spaces composed of adjoining stalls are also required to have an alarm system for the entire block of stalls, with independent switches for each stall, Fariñas said.
Fariñas proposed that business permits of establishments without an alarm system will not be renewed. (RO)
