Thursday, June 26, 2008 Province gets another P10M for farm roads
BENGUET is awaiting another P10 million for the improvement of at least four farm-to-market roads (FMRs) from the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The fund, allotted from the Department of Agriculture's (DA's) Ginintuang Masaganang Ani program, was requested by the province, Governor Nestor Fongwan said.
Fongwan said the fund would be used to improve the roads in production areas in the province.
The towns of Bakun, Kabayan, Kibungan and Buguias will benefit from the financial assistance, released last April. P3 million was allotted for the improvement of Bakun's Dalipey-Sinacbat FMR, while P2.5 million was allocated for Kabayan's Ballay-Tawangan FMR.
The Halsema-Madaymen FMR in Kibungan was given P2.5-million financial assistance while the improvement of the Halsema Junction to Saclalan-Ampatang in Buguias was allotted another P2 million.
Fongwan said the P10 million was requested by the province a long time ago, and it is only now the money is being released for implementation.
The improvement of these roads is seen to facilitate the delivery not only of agricultural crops but basic services to the people in these localities.
The governor said the allocation of the fund was based on the needs and the production of the towns benefited.
The aid will be used under the conditions of a memorandum of agreement signed between the Provincial Government and the DA regional office. (JC)
