Councilor seeks funds for disability prevention week

A PROPOSED resolution was introduced last Wednesday by Councilor Erdolfo Balajadia to provide funds for the celebration of National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week every third week of July.

Balajadia said the third week of July was declared as National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week and this culminates on July 23 each year.

With this year's theme of "Kapag May Access, May Success," which emphasizes the importance of providing accessibility to persons with disabilities (PWDs) not only through facilities, but also through services and employment opportunities, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has been designated by the National Council on Disability Affairs Board (NCDAB) to host this year's celebration.

"We should support the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week by undertaking several activities such as facilitating coordination with local religious groups and churches for the reading of a pastoral letter relative to the celebration; and conduct seminars, symposia, and other similar activities on disability-related laws for local government officials and employees and the general public, as well as photo exhibits on successful PWDs, sports events and the like," Balajadia suggested.

He said they should also include PWD-related information in flag-raising ceremonies and broadcasting in local media; and display streamers in Baguio City Hall and other offices of the City Government and national offices in Baguio. (ENO)
