LPG-run cars now available

VEHICLES which use LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) for fuel are now available.

Although more expensive compared to mere conversion, using a car with a built-in engine gives more benefits, said Nelly Nieva, sales executive of Amianan Chery Motors.

Called the Cowin car, the vehicle can be used as a taxicab as per the approval of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, she said.

Designed for both LPG and gasoline-fed engines, the Cowin engine was built in Austria and then assembled in China.

"Cowin is an alternative vehicle, especially for franchises which are about to expire," Nieva said.

The LTFRB allows taxi units be used for ten years only. After which, franchise could no longer be extended, unless a new vehicle is acquired.

LPG conversion costs P20,000 to P30,000 while the LPG car costs P470,000. (RO)
