Benguet's share in San Roque dam to be given quarterly

THE Benguet Provincial Government and the localities serving as host communities for the operations of the San Roque Multipurpose Dam will get their respective National Wealth Tax (NWT) shares on a quarterly basis, a move expected to boost development in the concerned localities.

This came after the National Power Corporation (Napocor) turned over millions of pesos to the province, the municipality of Itogon and its two villages.

Governor Nestor Fongwan said Napocor recently turned over another P3 million to the province as its quarterly share in San Roque's operations.

Last month, the state-owned corporation gave P11.9 million to the Provincial Government, representing the local government's share in San Roque operations for the years 2004 to 2007.

Recently, Napocor also turned over Itogon's share amounting to P23 million and the P19 million share of Barangays Ampucao and Dalupirip.

Napocor agreed to release Benguet's share on a quarterly basis, Fongwan said.

The provincial and municipal governments have been pressing Napocor to release their respective shares from the NWT derived from San Roque's operations, claiming it is among the host communities of the dam's operations for being the source of water supplying the giant dam.

The Benguet and Pangasinan provincial governments agreed to a 50-50 sharing of the NWT derived from San Roque's operations. (JC)
