More markets for Baguio

IF NO development is forthcoming in the main market, some big barangays of Baguio could be host for the building of markets here, although smaller in size.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Aside from satellite markets, establishing smaller markets can contribute to decongestion, said Councilor Isabelo Cosalan Jr., who recently asked Senator Mar Roxas to fund construction of market buildings on Irisan and Pacdal barangays.

By bringing infrastructure development and amenities to less crowded areas, Cosalan said the business district can be decongested.

The proposed building at Pacdal and Irisan is a modernized concept of the satellite market or talipapa, he explained.

If a business center is built, Cosalan said, this will attract more investors and local businessmen who might consider relocating to these areas.

He said this will also facilitate commerce with neighboring provinces in the Cordillera, Ilocos, ang Cagayan Valley regions.

Aside from satellite markets, the slaughterhouse market is used as an alternative market but majority of residents here buys at the main market at Kayang-Hilltop.

Fifty million pesos was requested from Roxas as funds for the construction of the proposed buildings. (RO)
