Tuesday, August 05, 2008 Tabora Park eyed as MRF site By Rimaliza Opiña
A PORTION of Tabora Park, which is currently utilized as a staging area for La Trinidad-bound jeepneys plying the Magsaysay route, is being eyed as site for the establishment of a material recovery facility (MRF) for the central business district (CBD).
Because the business district has been classified as one of the biggest producers of recyclable wastes, Councilor Isabelo Cosalan said it is essential that the site for the MRF for the CBD be located near it.
"It is imperative to establish MRFs that are proximate to the garbage source to make easier the transport and transfer of recyclable materials to processing centers or to interested private individuals or enterprises engaged in these concerns," Cosalan said.
He also proposed that a portion of the Bibak dormitory at Harrison Road, be used as MRF site.
The Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 mandates the establishment of MRFs in barangay clusters for the further sorting of waste generated in the households.
