Sunday, August 24, 2008 CPLA members not immune from gun ban
INDIVIDUALS claiming to be members of the Cordillera Peoples Liberation Army (CPLA) in the guise of carrying firearms are not excused from apprehension.
Police Regional Director Eugene Martin said persons claiming to be members of the CPLA will not be excused from apprehension if found carrying firearms.
"The government has already complied with the clamor of CPLA to be integrated into the armed forces and no CPLA should be carrying arms anymore," Martin said.
He said the number of those who were integrated in the armed forces was more than the "honest-to-goodness strength."
More than 2,000 CPLA members were incorporated in the armed forces. Those who were not integrated were given financial assistance to start their own livelihood.
"The CPLA integration is a thing of the past. We will arrest those carrying arms and invoking that they are members of the CPLA," Martin said. (JC)
