Jaguars nips Cardinals in overtime in Bbeal games
By Roderick Osis

THE University of the Cordillera (UC) Jaguars relied on the heroics of Carlo Domingo in overtime to steal a win against the University of Baguio (UB) Cardinals in the ongoing Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League (Bbeal), 94-92 Sunday evening to remain unscathed in the tournament.

Haynes Acdong bulldozed his way to a game-high 27 points to lead the Jaguars in regulation but failed to score a single point in the overtime.

Domingo filled the gap left by Acdong to score all eight of his 10 points to pull the Gov. Pack-based dribblers to score their second win against no defeat to join Saint Louis University and the Cordillera Career Development College.

The Cardinals now put themselves into fourth place suffering a heartbreaking loss in their home turf despite the heroics of Kenneth Ighalo, James Rodolfa and the sweet shooting of Miguel Elefante.

"I forced my game out because I had a hard time doing it for the team, so when overtime came, that's where I poured out my game," Domingo said after the game.

The Cardinals seemed to have perfected their mastery against the Jaguars with their timely three-point baskets but UC made a fourth quarter surge which put the game into overtime after being down by seven with 2:08 left in the fourth period.

Acdong then scored two successive lay-ups followed by a short stab in the paint by Domingo to put the Jaguars within one, 78 -79, 1:22 left in regulation.

The Jaguars then had a chance to win the ballgame in regulation period but UC's John Paul Juralbal was called for an offensive foul with ten seconds left.

UB was on its way to handling the Jaguars their first defeat after nailing only one shot in their two free throws to lead by two, 78-80, with 7.2 ticks left in clock.

Acdong then grabbed a rebound after the miss, setting up a streaking Domingo to put the game into overtime. Domingo then scored his last eight points on overtime to give the Jaguars their second win.

The Jaguars then rallied to a 12-5 run on overtime to put the Cardinals at bay, 92-85, with two minutes left.

In other games, the Saint Louis Lions walloped the Baguio Central University Eagles to a commanding 58-44 win to notch their 2-0 win-loss record.

The Lions limited the hapless Eagles to only two points in the first quarter to seal a lopsided victory during the Sunday games at the UB gymnasium.

Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC) Admirals meanwhile drubbed Benguet State University to also seal their second win in the tournament against no defeat last Sunday.

The Admirals are facing the University of the Philippines (UP) Baguio Fighting Maroons at the CCDC Gym as of press time Monday.
