Stall extensions face dismantling

LEGITIMATE businessmen are not without fault when it comes to clearing passageways of merchandise.

Ocular inspection done by the Public Order and Safety Division (Posd), market superintendent, the committee on market and the Alay sa Kalinisan Inc. last Saturday revealed that even legitimate businessmen occupy rights-of-way by extending their display area beyond the "white line" set by the anti-peddling task force.

The inspection team, in particular, pointed to rice retailers who extend their stalls beyond the limit set, resulting in narrowing of roads in this part of the market.

To bring order in the market, notices have been served to concerned businessmen for voluntarily removal of stall extensions. Stalls that are not dismantled will be demolished next week.

Pending a decision on the final development, clearing and cleaning of market are the only things done at the market.

Development of the market is a long-time clamor because of unclear zoning policies, subleasing of stalls and the absence of hygienic policies. (RO)
