Sunday, August 31, 2008 Friendship Cup tourney opens application
BAGUIO’S longest running amateur basketball tournament is once again calling team owners for a meeting on Sunday to iron out application of the upcoming 10th edition of the Friendship Cup.
Although amateur basketball league has sprouted like mushroom in the city, Friendship Cup remains to be the city's top amateur league, luring some of the city's best basketball players, including school varsity players.
Unlike the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League, which pits Baguio and Benguet's colleges and universities, Friendship Cup pits some establishments and other groups who are avid supporters of basketball.
Organizers will hold a general meeting at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Golden Pine Hotel that will also include team owners and coaches at the coffee shop to iron out participation in the different brackets of the tournament.
Organized by the SLU Boys High Batch 1980, Friendship Cup is now on its 10th season of bringing friendly and competitive tournaments to basketball enthusiasts in the city and nearby Benguet province.
Basketball team owners may file their application on Sunday at the Golden Pine Hotel or may call George Ong at 444-9965 at Golden Pine Hotel. (RO)
