Wednesday, September 03, 2008 LTO creates requirement list to register PUVs By Ernie N. Olson Jr.
THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Baguio issued a list of requirements to be complied with by public utility vehicle (PUV) operators to minimize the tendency of being victimized by "fixers."
Among the requirements to be submitted in order to renew the registration of PUVs are the operator's birth, marriage certificate or voter's identification card, record or passport, certificate of registration and official receipt of the unit, picture(s) of the unit, the deeds of sale or assignment of the unit and its franchise, and proof of the operator's financial capability like his or her income tax return, bank deposit, bank certificate or title of real estate property.
Aside from these, operators are also required to submit to the LTO their community tax certificate or cedula, tax identification number, trade name registration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), a copy of the franchise or order, picture and sketch of the garage or terminal, a barangay or police certification regarding the existence of the garage or terminal, two copies of their passport sized or 2" x 2" pictures with a specimen signature on the back, the information or data sheet of the operators and a certification that they have registered and taken insurance coverage under the Philippine Accident Managers Inc.
According to Rudy Gomez of the Baguio LTO Office, they are now issuing this list of requirements for PUV registration to the general public, to minimize the dependency of PUV operators on "fixers" who proliferate around their compound.
