Friday, September 05, 2008 2 miners stabbed in dawn fight
TWO private miners were rushed to the hospital, one in critical condition, after they got stabbed by someone they got into a fight with along Padre Burgos Street early Monday morning.
The victims were identified on Thursday by the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) as Ryan Balusdan Robillos, 25, single, who hails from and resides in Ampucao, Itogon, Benguet; and Fernando Pedro Lucaben, 21, single, also from the same place.
According to an eyewitness who tried to pacify the fight, he only knows the assailant by his first name of Carlo.
An initial investigation of this frustrated homicide and physical injury case disclosed that the suspect punched Lucaben without warning and for no reason at all, while they were standing in front of Jon Jan's Videoke Bar along Padre Burgos Street at around 5:30 a.m. of September 1.
When this was seen by his elder brother, Ferrer, he retaliated by also punching the suspect, but he was immediately pacified by the witness.
However, when the Lucaben brothers and their companions were about to leave the place, the suspect armed himself with a knife and chased them, stabbing Robillos twice on the left side of his chest, twice on his left shoulder and again on his left elbow.
Not content, the suspect also stabbed Fernando Lucaben on his left cheek, before he "walked casually away" from the crime scene.
Both victims were immediately rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center emergency room, where they were operated on for their multiple stab wounds before being confined. (ENO)
