Another grenade detonated in Baguio
By Ernie N. Olson Jr.

FOR the second time this year, a grenade was detonated in Baguio.

The motive for lobbing the grenade between three vehicles parked in Central Bakakeng was still unknown although it caused heavy damage on them in the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday.

According to Chief Inspector Reynaldo Pasiwen, Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Mobile Group commander, based on the evidences recovered from the blast scene, the explosive used was believed to be an MK2 fragmentation hand grenade.

Though nobody was killed or injured during the blast, he said, their personnel are continuously conducting an investigation to identify possible suspects and to find out the possible motive behind the incident.

He said a very loud explosion was heard to have emanated from a parking area in front of the house of Edison Cabaron, 38, married, a businessman, who resides here at 101 Km 3, Central Bakakeng, around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 3.

As a result of the explosion, heavily-damaged then were his Mitsubishi Outlander bearing license plate number AHH-631, a Honda Civic with plate number UGL-832 owned by Ferdinand Lazaro, and an owner-type jeep with plate number CKU-460 owned by a certain Mr. dela Peña.

After this was reported to the police, separate teams from BCPO Station 10 and the BCPO Mobile Group, as well as a scene-of-the-crime operation (Soco) team from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory responded to the blast scene.

"During the post-blast investigation, the Soco and our Explosives and Ordinance Disposal Team (EODT) theorized the explosion was caused by a hand grenade that was thrown in the parking area, as evidenced by several fragments recovered from the scene," Pasiwen said.
