THE fifth Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) Weekend kicks off on Thursday with an array of activities set to delight the senses.
The weekend actually starts on Thursday with a freestyle pasta-making and presentation student division competition at the Baguio Country Club multipurpose hall (BCC-MPH) at 7 in the morning. The job and trade fairs will immediately follow at 8 a.m. also at the BCC-MPH. The fairs will last until September 13, Saturday.
Simultaneous with the opening of the fairs will be the freestyle pasta-making professional division at the right stage of the BCC-MPH; the freestyle cold seafood buffet platter (student division) at the BCC training center; the wedding theme floral design centerpiece competition for individual students at the BCC roof deck; the student team division tour package presentation at the BCC Butler's Room at 9 a.m. and the freestyle cold seafood buffet platter competition, professional team division at the BCC Training Center at 10 a.m.
Also to be simultaneously held at 10 a.m. of September 11 are the: wedding theme professional division floral design centerpiece competition at the BCC Roofdeck; the wedding theme table setting for student teams; and the student team division of the freestyle ice-carving competition over at the Events Center of SM City Baguio. In BCC at 11 a.m. will be the freestyle cold meat buffet platter competition for student teams at the BCC Training Center.
At noon at the SM Events Center, will be held the freestyle ice-carving competition for professional teams.
Back at the BCC, the Thai-cuisine cooking demonstration will be held at the MPH simultaneous with the student team division market basket classical live cooking competition also at the BCC-MPH.
In the afternoon the professional team division of the tour package presentation will be held at the BCC Butler's Room at the BCC to be followed by the Cordillera cuisine fusion freestyle professional team division competition will 2 at the BCC-MPH; ice carving free-style, student team division will be held at the Events Center of SM; at 3 p.m., the Nestle Cooking demonstration will take place at the BCC-MPH simultaneous with the Mocktail competitions for individual students at the BCC Training Center; and at 4 the Events Center of SM will host the freestyle ice-carving competitions for professional teams.
At 5:30 over at the Roof Deck of BCC will be held the Sponsors' Cocktails to be followed at 7 by the coronation for the Search for Mr. & Ms. HRAB at the Baguio Convention Center.
The New Zealand Trade and Enterprise will co-sponsor a Thai dinner with the judges at Par 7 of BCC.
This will be followed at 9 a.m. with the freestyle Cordillera cuisine fusion also at the BCC-MPH.
Other activities lined for the weekend include the dream team challenge competition, set menu, pralines-plated dessert and barista competitions.
This year's event will feature the Northern Luzon Food Showdown competitions of students and professionals that will determine North Luzon's representatives to the National Food Showdown on September 17 to 19 at the World Trade Center in Manila.
In five years, the Weekend has facilitated and steadily supported its growth to be the center of the promotion of the culinary profession, ensuring understanding and appreciation of the modern culinary arts developments; promoting camaraderie and educational opportunities among culinary professionals and aims to be the staging area for research and development of culinary concepts and techniques in Northern Luzon.
