Wednesday, September 10, 2008 Councilors hail NGOs for SK training
THE Children's International Summer Village (CISV) Baguio Chapter and the Advocates for Youth Development and Empowerment (Ayde) were recently commended for conducting a values education and leadership seminar for the city's Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials recently.
In a resolution approved by then Acting Mayor Daniel Fariñas, the City Council said the commendation was given to the CISV and the Ayde in recognition of their efforts, with the hope of inspiring other institutions to come up with similar programs in coordination with the City Government.
"As a fitting gesture of appreciation, there is a need to commend the CISV Baguio Chapter and the Ayde for preparing and implementing a proper module to train our city's youth to become responsible and well-motivated community leaders in the future," the resolution explained.
In the training seminar, which was participated in by 177 SK officials of Baguio, the youth leaders were taught how to develop positive values; equip themselves with the knowledge of their personal capacity to be able to fully utilize their positive qualities and improve on their weaknesses as they perform their specific duties as leaders of the youth in their respective communities; perform the functions of their respective offices honestly to the best of their abilities; be exemplary in their behavior in relation to people of different ages at home, in school, in offices and the community as a whole; and engage in long-term planning and goal-setting.
The Ayde, chaired by Laurel Bangaoet, is a special division of the CISV Baguio Chapter, which is also headed by SK Federation of Baguio president and Councilor Gloria Ysabel de Vera.
Copies of the resolution were furnished to the CISV, Ayde, media, and all other concerned offices. (ENO)
